Fort Eliza Carthago

The ruins of this fort are within the RETREAT property. Our guide will accompany you on the walk up CARTHAGO HILL. At the summit you are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding area. Let your gaze wander west to where the ANKOBRA RIVER feeds into the GULF of GUINEA.

Historic documents date ELIZA CARTHAGO’S origins and chronological span from 1680 to the early 1700’s. It originally served as a Dutch trade lodge. Our property guide will indicate the remaining wall and stairs as well as inform you about the surrounding flora and fauna. You are also welcome to simply while on the bamboo bench placed there for your comfort. Enjoy the breathtaking view…the cool hilltop breeze…and with a catered drink in hand, reflect on the history around you.
